FORGIVENESS

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is PANEL-14.jpg

I have captured much of this in my book “Ensnared.” I struggled with unforgiveness and lived with so much hate towards my dad. The book is available on amazon and kindle and is very affordable. Let’s get an extra juice on this same topic – FORGIVENESS.

Many people say that life is too short to be lived in negative energy. Well it is true; couldn’t be put any better. Learning the art of forgiveness is not only beneficial to your mental health but is also instrumental in what is manifested and projected in your physical health.

Forgiveness is defined as a deliberate decision to stop harboring negativity towards who hurt you. This conscious action does not focus on whether this party deserves your forgiveness or not. Most of the time, the former is true; they don’t deserve it

But why do we choose to go the tough path of forgiveness?

  • Forgiveness puts your health in good shape

Unforgiveness can take a toll on your body, mind and soul. Just as I mentioned earlier, holding negative emotions damages the cushion that holds peace and calmness required in our bodies. Unresolved pain or conflict can go deeper than you may realize – it may be eating into your physical health and this could be manifested through blood pressure, anxiety, depression and stress. Forgiveness is medicine for the body, mind and spirit.

  • Forgiveness frees you – peace

This brings me to this point – forgiveness is not about the other person, it’s about you. It’s about your peace. It’s not about making peace with the one who hurt you but making peace within yourself. Feeling free from the negative emotions. Holding back brings delays and stagnation. It’s like carrying a huge weight. You put it down, you feel free.

  • Forgiveness saves that relationship

It gets even worse when you extend your anger and grudge to friends and family of that one person who hurt you. Unforgiveness masks our eyes and heart from seeing the good side of people who hurt us. How many times has someone hurt you and you fail to acknowledge they might have fallen shot in one area but that doesn’t define who they are. Forgiveness will save your relationship because you’ll start viewing them from a point of positivity. Do you believe in second chances?

  • Forgiveness leads to spiritual growth

Forgiveness opens our hearts to many spiritual practices such as patience, compassion, kindness and humility.

Are you battling unforgiveness and prolonged anger? Let’s walk this journey together. Get my book here

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE CHOOSING A PROGRAM TO STUDY ABROAD

There are hundreds of study abroad programs available and taking the following things into account can help to narrow the options in order to find one that is right for you.

  • LOCATION

You’d want to choose a destination based on climate, culture, safety and accessibility. Some students want to study in a big city while others are looking for a more remote destination.

  • LANGUAGE

If you are planning to study in a non-English speaking country you may be required to demonstrate proficiency in the host country’s language. Be sure to check the language requirements before applying.

  • COST

Consider the program’s cost and whether it’s within your budget.

Look into the availability of grants, scholarships and study abroad loans to enable you offset costs.

  • ACADEMIC FIT

This is where you match a program with your interests, passion and goals. Consider the courses offered, academic reputation of the host institution and even the program and the program’s accreditation status.

OVERCOMING PROCRASTINATION

Results can only be achieved when we put in the work and do it the right way at the right time. Procrastination is an enemy of success that we have to deal with.

Let’s fight this together. Here are powerful tips that will help you deal with procrastination.

  • CHANGE YOUR THINKING

Success starts in the mind. Failure is all mindset. People spend a lot of time thinking about things they haven’t done and all they’ve been procrastinating about and before they know it, their mind is already poisoned into thinking it’s okay and that’s how they are. Then they live with it.

So instead of starting your work and abandoning it half way, just finish it! If you started it, which is the most difficult thing; you can still finish it up. Just start, and while at it, finish.

  • BEAT THAT OBSTACLE.

What is that biggest obstacle that is preventing you from accomplishing a task. First, identifying that hindering factor is a step to beating procrastination. Deal with it. Get it out of your way. You can as well ask for help.

  • ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR ‘WHY’

This serves as a kind of motivation for many. Whenever you remember your “Why”, you’ll be more motivated to do the things you ought to do. So, what are your “Why’s” Why do you want what you want? Why did it even cross your mind in the first place? This will ignite a particular energy into your spirit.

  • GET AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER

The truth is, it can be downright stressful sometimes. And you would lose focus or get distracted, but with an accountability partner, you’re geared up to action. Find someone who loves to be part of your success, someone who keys into your dream and ambition. Someone you report to concerning your progress and failure.

However, not everyone does well with an accountability partner. Some people prefer to hold themselves accountable than anyone else.

If that works for you, get one!

HAS YOUR COLLEGE APPLICATION BEEN REJECTED? WHAT COULD BE THE REASON? FIND OUT

After a long struggle to get to college your chance to study abroad is the most exciting phase in education. New environment, new people, new culture, new language all these are things students look forward to.

Applying to an international college is a delicate process that needs proper handling. Most students have reported rejection of their study abroad application after thinking they did everything right. There’s more; let’s find out!

We have a list of possible reasons for rejection of international college applications;

  • Lack of expert guidance

As a first timer, you need guidance so as to get things right. Having an expert’s opinion goes a long way to ensure you don’t miss anything out. Missing certain things in your application; could be documents etc may result to rejection of your application.

  • Providing false information.

Forging documents and/or scores will get you caught during reviews with the admission panel. Submitted documents are reviewed keenly and it is very important to carefully fill out the study abroad forms with the right information otherwise any discrepancy will lead to cancellation of the entire application procedure.

  • A not so convincing SOP

A statement of purpose is an essential component of the study abroad application process. A strong SOP boosts your chances of being shortlisted for admission to a college/university. An SOP requires a formal yet engaging tone; not overly flattering or dated language.

  • Low IELTS/TOEFL Score.

The university you are applying to outlines a clear set of requirements that you are needed to read before submitting applications. This includes a clear score accepted in the English proficiency tests. Just giving the score is not enough. You have to meet what is required. Submitting something below what is expected or not submitting at all can lead to rejection.

  • Missed deadlines or the last one to apply

A candidate is expected to be timely and submitting a late application means a negative impression. Waiting until the last minute to submit portrays a bad image of who you are to the admissions panel.

Some colleges/universities keep track of submission dates and when your application is received by the deadline it can greatly inform the decisions of the admissions panel.

  • Emailed to the wrong address

Students have missed out on application submissions either by using incorrect address or not including the right postage.

Read the submissions instructions clearly to ensure right location. You can as well double check with the university to confirm if they have received your application.

  • Late visa application

Among the most crucial steps in studying abroad is visa application. Proper research starts from knowing what is required to obtain a student visa. Timely application and knowing the right documentation matter a lot.

  • Applying for courses you are not eligible for

Studying abroad doesn’t just mean applying for any course at any institution. The choice of your course should resonate with the given requirements; else, your application will be rejected.

  • Unsuccessful payment of fees

There is always an additional fee to the tuition fee that is part of the application procedure. Many students are not aware that this must be paid while submitting their study abroad applications to universities/colleges.

Most application fees are non-refundable and even after rejection you will not receive your money back. However, your application will be turned down if you don’t pay at all.

MISTAKES INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS MAKE WHEN APPLYING TO COLLEGES

Applying to U.S. colleges and universities as an international student can be overwhelming. There are many different parts of the admissions process to consider, so experts recommend students plan carefully.

As prospective international students navigate the college application process, here are common mistakes they should avoid:

  1. PREFERING ‘HIGH BRAND’ OR HIGH-RANKED COLLEGES

Professional Educational consultants don’t rank colleges; we think of them in tiers. For example: Princeton is in the first tier, UC Berkeley is in the second, UC San Diego is in the third and so on. If you’re like everybody else and want to go to the “best” college, official rankings might be useful to some extent to give you a sense of tiers, but otherwise they are not helpful at all.

You’re much better off creating your own tiers, keeping your needs in mind. Try categorizing colleges into reach, match and safety groupings, and then picking the ones that will be your focus based on criteria like educational fit, campus culture fit, etc.

  • APPLYING WITHOUT A ‘NARRATIVE’

When you apply to a college, you are not just sending in your application. Whether you realize it or not, you are submitting a story about yourself and that story can be told well or told poorly.

Many people within the college admission office read your application and come away with a narrative about you that forms the basis of their picture of you as a person—they don’t remember details. Here, you have the power to frame that impression.

Instead of trying to explain everything you are doing in high school, focus on the one or two primary areas that you are most passionate about. And be sure to back up your passion with impressive achievements.

  • STARTING TEST PREP IN YOUR SENIOR YEAR

We talk to so many students who start too late prepping for their standardized tests. Don’t wait until the end of junior year and the beginning of senior year to take these tests—and definitely don’t wait until then to start studying.

Whether we like it or not, standardized tests are one of the most heavily weighted part of the college admissions “formula” and if you plan in advance, you actually have a big advantage over other students. Don’t be one of those late starters. This is something under your control.

  • HAVING NO CLEAR PASSION

Your application is unlikely to be compelling to colleges if you’re not accomplished in an area of genuine passion.

College admissions officers are looking for students who show deep curiosity and interest in some academic areas and some non-academic extracurriculars. It’s not enough to just get very good grades and test scores, you need to have authentic passion and have attained some notable achievements that area.
