WHITE WHEAT CHAPATI

These white wheat chapatis are the best. Fast and easy to prepare. A perfect addition to your stew or hot drinks. Bonus: chapatis have the ability to go for days, if preserved well!

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups of white wheat flour.
  • 1 teaspoon full salt
  • 1/3 cup of vegetable (high smoking point recommended)
  • Water….boiling water
  • Extra flour for dusting

YOU WILL NEED: rolling pin, frying oil, spoon, skillet/pan, mixer

COOKING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preparation of the dough 
  • Mix the dries well- pour the flour into a basin and add salt.
  • Mix the boiling water with the oil in the mixer
  • Add the dries into the mixer too.
  • Turn mixer on and mix well (the dough should not be sticky)
  • When ready, transfer to a pot and cover for 30 minutes

2. Preparation of the Chapati

  • Take out from the pot where it was covered to rest and knead a bit on a surface. 
  • Dust surface then spread the dough on the clean dusted surface. Apply oil then fold
  • Cut them according to desired size
  • Cover with a clean, wet & warm kitchen towel

3. Roasting

  • Heat the pan
  • Apply a little vegetable oil on the pan
  • Take one piece of dough each time, roll it to a round shape and place on the pan. 
  • Fry both sides till golden brown, applying vegetable oil as needed.
  • Enjoy with your favorite stew!

Some Vital Tips to Make Soft Flaky Chapatis

  • Don’t reduce the amount of oil/fat required. The correct amount is what makes them flaky.
  • Allow the dough to rest often to make it more pliable
  • The dough should not be sticky
  • Ensure you cover the dough with warm, moist towel when on the surface as you fry
  • Water used to mix must be boiling water
